Kiripi Katembo
Biography
Born in Goma in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kiripi Katembo Siku graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kinshasa where he lives and works today. He first became interested in painting before turning to photography and video. His favorite theme is "the notion of urban transformation" of his country, Kinshasa and other cities in the world.
In 2008, he presented at the Centre Pompidou Voiture en Carton (Carton Car), a video shot in Kinshasa by a small pocket camera.
His series of photos Un regard (A Look) is presented in the Photo Meeting Picha (Lubumbashi, DRC) in 2010. Kiripi receives the Blachère Foundation Prize for Un regard during the 9th Meeting of Photography in Bamako (Mali). These pictures are presented at KVS in 2011 and at the Grand Palais in Paris. In 2012, the exposition of Un regard continues at Bozar (Brussels) and at Flash Gallery (Stockholm).
Mutations is presented for the first time in Ostend in July 2012 as part of the Festival Theater Aan Zee and at the French Institute of Brazzaville.
Après Mine (After Mine) is both a documentary film and a series of photos (displayed in Bamako and Brussels). The film is presented at the Film Festival in Berlin, in Toronto and in Carthage in 2010 and won prizes at the Festival of Short Films of Abidjan and at the Academy Movie Award of Nigeria.
He was also second assistant director of the following fiction feature films: Viva Riva by Djo Munga wa Tunda and War Witch of Kim Nguyen.
