MARCH SESSION 2013 John Trashkowsky

John Trashkowsky

John Trashkowsky is a product of his time and satirical scanner of today. The range of topics is endless but never without a deep message. Inspired by the media overdose, industrial overproduction, political errors and social aberration the conflicts become plastic. The early works got realised by trashbags from countries all over the world like U.S., Brazil, Argentine, Netherlands, Canada, Germany, Greece, Switzerland, Israel, Spain, Hungary and Norway. His skills come from street-art on the one side and traditional skills and digital media on the other side. Some artworks have an installation character, like the “trashbag family”, a fast translation of today’s social interaction and consumption, or the “trashlights” Chinese lantern with electric lights inside with golden rods as an interactive development. The work of John Trashkowsy is suited as room installation, wall decoration or sculptural assembly. Several works had been shown at the legendary Tacheles while the Long Night of Museums in Berlin or at Artistes for Haiti in Paris.

Project for NYBA: "Golden years have gone"
Flags of delusion: Little flags of money from all over the world are presented like typical,
colourful Tibet flags. The flags will be damaged, stripped and dirty from a long time outdoor.
They will look like dreams that end up in smoke (satirical and poetical installation). There
will also be a strong connection to the occupation of Tibet from China and links strongly to
End and Over.
Golden Bags: What about streets full of gold? Therefore golden trashbags are produced and
people can use them regularly over a period. The trash on the streets is not anymore useless
trash, it becomes an attractive surprise in a golden packaging. And the value of trash is
changing into something precious –because trash is the new gold – and an important resource.
