How do we honor the dead? How do we commit them to memory? And how do we come to terms with the way they died? 

To start, we can name them. At least, that's the idea behind two installations at the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C. The first lists information — including names and ages — about the thousands of children who were killed in a massive earthquake in Sichuan, China, in 2008. They're printed in Chinese on white paper that takes up an entire wall. In the second, those names are read aloud through speakers. The audio takes 3 hours and 41 minutes to play through.

Both are part of "According to What?" — an exhibition that showcases the work of Chinese dissident artist Ai Weiwei.

To compile the list, Ai ran afoul of Chinese authorities by having citizen investigators collect the names of more than 5,000 children who were killed when their schools collapsed in the earthquake. He also asked his Twitter followers to record the names of the dead and email them to him, believing many to be the victims of shoddy construction.

When Ai published those names on his popular blog, government censors shut it down. A few months later, he was beaten by police and had to have emergency brain surgery.

Dorian X è lo pseudonimo con il quale, dall’inizio del terzo millennio un artista e design milanese firma le sue opere.

Con l’atteggiamento proprio delle ultime generazioni della società contemporanea, assuefatte a un illimitato godimento dell’immagine, Dorian X propone al suo pubblico stravaganti opere pittoriche, prevalentemente trasgressive ed evidenziate da una irriverente ironia.

Parallelamente alla sua professione ordinaria, Dorian X ha pubblicato quattro romanzi noir della serie “Le indagini di Nero Menfi” per la Esanicolao Edizioni, Milano, quindi ha esposto con personali e collettive in gallerie d’arte a Milano, Bologna, Roma, Pietrasanta, Amsterdam, Parigi, Pechino. Una sua opera è attualmente esposta al Museo dell’Erotismo di Amsterdam. Un sintetico catalogo delle sue opere è stato pubblicato dalla Mondo Bizzarro Gallery, Roma.

Dorian X - Biography

Dorian X is a pen name for an artist from Milan that signs his works from the beginning of the third millennium.

Near the last generation mood of the contemporary society, addicted to an illimitant image pleasure, Dorian X wants to suggest to his public his peculiar pictorial art, mostly unconventional and ironically irreverent.

At the same time of his ordinary job, Dorian X published 4 “mistery” novels of the series “Le indagini di Nero Menfi” for the Esanicolao Edizioni, Milan, then he exhibited his painting with personal and collective exhibitions in an art gallery in Milan, Bologna, Rome, Pietrasanta, Amsterdam, Paris, Beijing.

One of his paintings is currently exhibited at the Erotic Museum in Amsterdam.

A concise catalogue of his works is published by Mondo Bizzarro Gallery, Rome.

STATEMENT

Nicola Mastroserio, artista Italiano ideatore del nuovo concetto
artistico, scientifico e culturale “Cellulismo” .
Il “Cellulismo” è la capacità delle intelligenze di creare la vita nello spazio
generare mondi e concetti di vita.
Creature, materia e intelligenze, si intersecano in un modello etico, sociale, culturale in nuovi modelli di vita...
“La vita” riassunta nel simbolo Universale della vita diviene il riferimento a tutte le opere nella forma e nei concetti .
Il lavoro è molto più ampio e profondo e si fonde con teorie umanistiche elaborate nella propria coscienza e conoscenza.
Antiche e moderne teorie sulla origine della vita si intessono in una nuova elaborata complessità evoluzionistica e si fondono nelle opere di pittura, la
scultura, le istallazioni, gli scritti teorici, verso un futuro di conoscenza avanzata che sia di riferimento ad una elevazione dello status dell’umano verso un equilibrio esistenziale .
Ovvio, obbligato, inamovibile, verso un futuro reale ed avanzato …
La Pace nel Mondo, non servono scoperte, non servono tecnologie, non servono nuove conoscenze, se tutti, fratelli di una stessa esistenza, impediamo il diritto alla vita e alla libera espressione di ogni essere umano libero; con esso poniamo un muro insormontabile al nostro progresso… la vita vuole il progresso e se questo non sarà assecondato, non sarà l’uomo barbaro del terzo Millennio ad impedirlo.
La mia opera presentata insieme alla Biennale di New York 2013 che ringrazio ancora è una limpida espressione di quel progresso che attraversa il muro sociale inspessito dagli interessi personali,
dove la libera espressione nel rispetto dei diritti umani diventa veicolo di aggregazione concettuale e umanistica sommato al progresso che necessita lo svincolo soggettivo dalla condizione .

Peace in the World, do not serve discoveries, technologies do not need, do not need new knowledge, if any, brothers of the same existence, we prevent the right to life and freedom of expression of every free human being, and with it we put an insurmountable barrier to our progress ... life wants to progress and if this will not be indulged, not the barbarian man of the third millennium to prevent all happen naturally in full.
My work submitted with the Biennial of New York 2013, thank you again is a clear expression of that progress through the wall thickened by social interests,
where freedom of expression in respect for human rights becomes a vehicle for aggregation conceptual and humanistic added to the progress that requires the release of the subjective condition.
